Post-Halloween Skin Savers

On October 30th, your sexy clown Halloween costume seems like the PERFECT idea.

On November 1st… not so much.

All of that clown makeup, candy and booze wrecked your skin.

So What Do You Do?

Here are 3 simple steps to detox your skin (and body) after a so-much-fun-it-bordered-on-too-much-fun Halloween!

1. Cleanse with a Gentle Scrub.

Let’s be honest, you probably aren’t going to wash your face when you get home at 2am. When you wake up, you’re going to look like a very, very sad clown. Reverse the damage by cleansing with a scrub! The exfoliation will help to lift the makeup, sweat and dirt out of your pores to ready them for the next step. Our JUARA Enzyme Radiance Scrub does double duty as a cleansing scrub with all natural jojoba and bamboo beads PLUS quick fruit enzyme mask, so skin is freshly clean, healthy, and ready to receive further treatment!

2. Detox with a Mask…or Two!

So now your face is red, blotchy, and that pimple on your chin that’s been plaguing you since middle school is back with a vengeance. Apply a deep pore cleansing mask to detox your skin, allowing those nasty blemishes to surface and then fade away. The JUARA Rose & Willowbark Blemish-Free Mask will purify skin while calming it down, so say bye-bye to that red zit and hello to refined pores.

Blemish free already? Try our Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask to clear your pores of the same dirt and makeup, but also give it a healthy, “I wasn’t at a party but at a yoga class…” type of radiant complexion. Feeling doubly ambitious? Use the Rose & Willowbark Blemish-Free Mask, and after, follow with the Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance mask for a true deep clean and rejuvenated glow.

3. Flush Out Toxins with Ginger-Turmeric Tea

Once your face is taken care of, it’s time to address your body. That Halloween party was such a blast that it left you bloated, dehydrated and hungover. While the mask is cleansing your pores, mix up a soothing ginger-turmeric tea to detox and de-bloat. Make sure to keep drinking water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and happy. We’re loving the easy-to-find Trader Joe’s Ginger-Turmeric Tea, or if you want to go homemade, just chop equal parts of ginger and turmeric, boil, and sweeten with honey!

4. Tone, Tone, Tone!

After the deep pore cleansing mask, you’re going to need to tone and hydrate your skin throughout the day to allow blemishes to subside, or skin to rehydrate after festivities! our JUARA Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner is a skin soothing thirst quencher – with a chock full of oil-free hydrating ingredients including Tamarind and antioxidant teas.

Halloween may be a great reason to do a deep cleanse routine, but this is also a great any other time you have to wear lots of makeup, (aka for a stage, party, or everyday). Actually, whenever you feel the need for a love-my-skin recovery routine, feel free to give these steps a go so say bye to the “BOO!” in your skin and say hello to “YAY!”

Have a Mommy + Daughter (or Grandaughter) Spa Day!

The great fun of beauty rituals is that they can be fun and span all generations! Treat yourself and your little girl to a day of fun and at-home pedicures with these three relaxing home spa ideas.

Green Monster Face Masks

For you, this mask will hydrate and revitalize the skin. Nourishing avocado bringing needed moisture and fatty acids, while banana provides a gentle exfoliation. 60 Second Lunch: 6 Twists on PB&J

The simplest, scrumscious-est (I just made that word up), sandwich out there. Kids and adults alike enjoy the crunchy, salty, sweet mix of PB&J. But as great as this lunch option is, eating PB&J every day can get a bit… stale. Which is why we’re bringing you:

6 Spins On The Classic Sandwich

1. AB&B (Almond Butter & Banana)

With less sugar and fat than the classic, AB&B is the health conscious PB&J lover’s option. Spread both sides of the bread with protein/iron rich Almond Butter, then slice a potassium filled Banana on top. Close your sandwich up and take your first delicious, fiber-y bite.

2. N&SB (Nutella & Strawberry)

The N&SB is a recent addition to the PB&J family, and it was an instant hit. Succulent, chocolatey Nutella compliments fresh, sweet strawberry in an Italian (sort of?) version of this American classic.

3. CO&J (Coconut Oil & Jelly)

I guess this is more of a toast than a straight sandwich, but I feel strongly that it still counts. Toast both pieces of bread and spread a dollop of coconut oil on to both sides. Add your favorite jelly (I personally love raspberry preserves) and enjoy!

PS This would also taste AMAZING on an english muffin.

4. PB & A (Peanut Butter & Apples)

This is a cross between the classic Peanut Butter & Banana sandwich and Apples Dipped in Peanut Butter snack. It’s definitely the crunchiest PB&J family sandwich I’ve ever tried (you can make it even more so with crunchy peanut butter), and it’s a great one to pack for lunch because it does not get soggy. Ever.

5. PB & C & H (Peanut Butter & Cinnamon & Honey)

This is definitely more of a snack sandwich than a lunch sandwich, but either way it’s super scrumptious. Spread both sides of the bread with Peanut Butter, add a sprinkle of Cinnamon and a drizzle of Honey.

PS This would taste GREAT toasted!

6. PB&J on a B (Peanut Butter & Jelly on a Bagel)

This is MY FAVORITE off all of the PB&J varieties. Especially if you toast that bagel up first just slightly, so that the inside is still chewy but the outside is crunchy. This is not a variety I would recommend making at home, however, because your local bagel store can probably make it 100x better.

Do you have a favorite PB&J variation that’s not listed? Share it with us! I would love to try it out.

Q&A With Celebrity Makeup Artist Gianpaolo Ceciliato

Photo Credit: David Roemer & Marie Claire UK

Photo Credit: David Roemer & Marie Claire UK

Gianpaolo is one of my favorite makeup artists of all time, and I had the pleasure of meeting him last month at the Fall Into Beauty event hosted by the amazing Fournier PR & Consulting!

Aside from being the artist responsible for some of the most gorgeous looks in Hollywood (like this one of Taylor Swift) he is a total sweetheart and we got to talking about makeup, beauty philosophies and his recent JUARA love affair!

A Chat With Gianpaolo Ceciliato

Q: How did you get started in the makeup industry?

A: I grew up in Italy, surrounded by beautiful women. I’ve always loved makeup and my favorite playtime was giving makeovers to my friends.

Q: What is your beauty philosophy?

A: Beauty starts with loving yourself and taking the time to take care of yourself. Everyone is beautiful in their own way- work with what you have! And make it better by playing up your individuality.

Q: How do JUARA products blend with your beauty philosophy?

A: Pampering yourself with great products like Juara is a great start to achieve beauty.

Q: What are your three favorite JUARA products and how do you use them on your clients?

A: I always start with a good face massage to create a perfect canvas to work with, using the Clove Flower & Turmeric Serum. I like to wear some Candlenut Perfume Oil on my wrist. And the Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner is great to refresh dry and powdery makeup, just by patting it with my fingers into the skin.

Q: What is your number one beauty tip for winter weather?

A: I always recommend investing in a richer moisturizer.

Q: What role does a scent experience play in your makeup sessions? What is your fragrance philosophy?

A: Aromas and fragrances are very powerful to human senses. By using oil on my wrists, my clients can relax and enjoy the session more.

Q: What was your favorite part of being involved with the Fall Into Beauty event?

A: The best part for me was to have a spa day at my house with my closest friends and being able to test all the Juara products on different skin types and see the results!

4 Reasons Why We Love the Natural Resources Defense Council

Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day and environmental awareness, 10% of JUARA’s sales for the month of April will be donated to the Natural Resources Defense Council.

“Why did you choose the Natural Resources Defense Council over the hundreds of other amazing environmental charities you could have chosen?” you may ask. Well, to answer your question:

Here are 4 reasons why we LOVE the Natural Resources Defense Council!

1. Diversity

Unlike other charities who limit their mission to just one aspect of environmental need, NRDC is so large that it can focus on a number of projects at once. Their current Priority Issues include creating clean energy, reviving the world’s oceans, and fostering sustainable communities.

2. Clarity

NRDC is very clear about where and how the money they collect through donations goes to use. Check out their financial page  to see how the $105,000,000 raised in 2012 was put to use!

3. Credibility

NRDC was founded in 1970, and for the past 40 years has been working its way toward its current 1.4 million member count. The New York Times named them “One of the nation’s most powerful environmental groups” and Worth Magazine named them a top 100 charity in the US.

4. Action Fund

Not only does the NRDC organize and fund charitable projects to support their mission, they also fight for pro-environmental legislation. Because the organization was founded by a group of environmental lawyers, NRDC is able to function as a charitable-acts organization AND a strong political voice for the environment.

Trivia Answer: Richard Nixon

New Year, New Me, New We! – Jill Sung

I got married this fall, and all I can say is, “It’s wonderful!” I got lucky – my husband is kind, caring, generous, and always thinks of what I want. Well, he tries to, and definitely does more than I have ever expected.

But in being married, I’m learning that it is not just me getting married and being me with someone else. And although I’ve grown up with siblings and roommates pretty communally, and know all about sharing, compromising, and living with others, it’s not quite the same as marriage and equality with another human being who hasn’t grown up with you.

So for my first new year as a married woman, I plan to shape up on a few things:

  • Patience – because husbands claim they can’t always read your mind
  • Communication – but not during a sports game
  • Be Positive – because being negative ruins my day, but not his! and it’s always nice to hear compliments
  • Be Fair – sometimes the small things don’t matter, except the way the toilet paper rolls…
  • Be Supportive – when he has a bad day, I should give him a break if he’s a little negative and doesn’t notice my new haircut

Besides these outlook changes, I plan to be more ritualistic. I’ve read that having little rituals with your mate, can help build bonds. I had friends that would have a monthly date night, but even something small like washing and drying dishes together every night, can help build communication and positive feelings toward each other.  And it’s important to have some fun husband wife activities…my husband has chosen bird-watching to be one of our new hobbies. I’ll keep you updated, but  I did try it out in Florida – and wading birds are beautiful up close! And finally, I’m looking forward to problem solving our problems…whether by reading books on conflict resolution, or by looking for a relationship counselor. I figure all relationships have problems – it’s good to findthe tools to maintain and improve good relationships before they become bad.

So wish me luck, and let me know your thoughts about your relationships!
