Oh…Goji! Bless you – A Recipe for the Flu.

Ever heard of the ancient and famed Asian berry called the Goji Berry? Originally from China, these small, bright, orange-red colored berries (also known as wolfberries) are consumed all through Southeast Asia and now the west-  known as a superfruit. They look like dried cranberry “kernels” if one were to exist, but they are known for its healing benefits – often consumed in soups, wines, and beverages for health and longevity for centuries.

Vitamin Packed

Like most colorful berries, the Goji Berry is packed full of anti-oxidants, which helps your body stay strong as it fights against free radicals, due to its high oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC).  However, these little tasty ancient fruits are also rich in compounds which contain Vitamin A and C, ad a whopping 13 and 9% of your daily serving in each ounce – which is great for immune system and overall cell health.

Preliminary Studies

Preliminary studies have shown tests on elder male mice who were fed (thankfully good-for-you!) goji berries for 30 days compared to mice who were not – and both groups were given a flu vaccine. Results showed the mice who had been fed a diet with goji berries showed a higher antibody response, hence a better response to the flu vaccine.

Drink Recipe for the Flu

I, unfortunately, did not manage to avoid the flu this season, so while I was bundled up at home, I turned to this home-remedy, combining my own ancient heritage – and some western goodness for a feel-good healthy drink to get me through the ickiness of the flu!

1 teaspoon Goji Berries
1/8 teaspoon of liquid Red Ginseng (optional – but supercharges your drink!)
1 heaping teaspoon of Manuka Honey
Soy Milk (or other nut milk of choice)
Hot Water

Fill the cup with the dried goji berries and boiling water until 1/2 way full. Wait 5 minutes for the goji berries to soften. Stir in the ginseng, honey, and then add soy milk till the cup is full. Let steep for 1-2 more minutes, then enjoy!

Benefits for Skin

The Goji Berry is packed with beta carotene (hence the Vitamin A) and good for your skin. Also used in our JUARA Clove Flower & Turmeric Anti-Aging Serum, Goji helps with all around anti-aging, in combination with the natural palm-peptide to make it more efficacious in smoothing and firming skin.

Radiance Revived! Glowing Skin in 2 Easy Steps

JUARA Radiance Enzyme Scrub & Radiance Vitality Oil

JUARA Radiance Enzyme Scrub & Radiance Vitality Oil

Ever wonder how to quickly get rid of dullness in the winter? Loving your face masks, but want to try a little something different? Your biggest friends in the cold season to get healthy, glowing skin is 1. Exfoliation, and 2. Hydration. As easily as they rhyme, you can get a dual treatment done in less than 5 minutes flat!

Why? In winters, especially with exposure to dry, cold air, your skin can dry more quickly and the dead skin cells can build up. This can make the skin less smooth, and therefore less luminous. I like our JUARA Radiance Enzyme Scrub – which exfoliates both with all-natural, perfectly round jojoba and bamboo beads (no plastic microbeads!) as well as a fruit enzyme – so it’s like a scrub that double duties as a light peel if you leave it on for a few minutes. It doesn’t get any easier! Benefits of exfoliation include skin looking smoother, fine lines looking less visible (when dead skin collecting around them is removed,) and increased circulation – from the (gentle!) stimulation of scrubbing beads on the face.

Then once the skin is smooth and exfoliated, freshly rinsed clean and patted dry, it’s time to replenish it with moisture to keep it supple and glowing. Our JUARA Radiance Vitality Oil blends 12 different kinds of oils, ranging from light ones such as passionfruit, candlenut, macadamia, and coconut oils to quickly penetrate skin, medium oils that match your skin’s sebum such as jojoba oils, and richer oils such vitamin E rich rice bran oil and nourishing avocado oils, so you get the best blend of all. PLUS, our facial oil has stabilized Vitamin C for an extra boost of antioxidants and its brightening properties (in an oil? You betcha!) and a mysterious sounding yet potent Five Flavor Berry which will help keep skin firm. Last but not least, if the luscious cocktail of oils isn’t whetting your dry skin’s appetite yet, we also included Turmeric, with its strong antioxidant and skin brightening properties.

You only need to exfoliate about 2-3 times a week to give the skin time to regenerate after each treatment, however you should apply the oil everyday after cleansing as the last step of your skincare ritual. In the winter, I love double layering a moisturizer, AND an oil, however in the summer, the oil is sufficient. In the hot, sticky summer? Yes – our oil is a 365 day/year compatible formula! Great for dry to combination skin types.

Curious to try? Always available on our website, but for a limited period of time, it’s also available on QVC as a duo for a whopping good deal, I’m almost afraid to show the price – you’ll just have to click HERE to find out and read the reviews!
